About us

Precision. Simplicity. Results.

At K2 Photonics, we help our customers solve complex measurement challenges with ultrafast laser technology. Our mission is to deliver precision sensing solutions that are easy to deploy, robust in performance, and tailored to your application needs. Whether you’re looking to integrate high-performance light sources into your systems or need a partner to co-develop breakthrough instrumentation, we’re here to help.

We specialize in compact and powerful femtosecond lasers with dual-comb solutions that bring lab-grade capabilities to real-world environments. From gas sensing and material analysis to industrial process monitoring, our technology is designed to give you faster insights, lower system complexity, and scalable performance.

Our team combines deep expertise in photonics with a hands-on approach to collaboration. We offer OEM modules, system customization, and responsive technical support—so you can focus on your end product while we handle the complexity of the light.

Meet our founding team

Dr. Justinas Pupeikis

Justinas is a photonics entrepreneur with a deep technical background and strong customer focus. With over a decade of experience in the field and a global network of connections, he has established himself as an emerging leader in the field of ultrafast lasers. He successfully completed the Bridge Proof of Concept program which was at the roots of the first K2 Photonics products.

Driven by both innovation and impact, Justinas is focused on building long-term customer value through reliable products and strong partnerships.

Dr. Benjamin Willenberg

Benjamin is a recognized expert in ultrafast optics and laser technology, with deep experience in developing cutting-edge dual-comb systems. He has obtained his PhD at ETH Zurich in 2019 and since then worked on developing dual-comb lasers and their applications as part of a Bridge Discovery project.

He is responsible for leading the company’s technology development efforts and ensuring that our products remain at the forefront of the industry.

Dr. Lukas Lang

Lukas is a highly capable lead engineer with a PhD in Physics from ETH Zurich, where he developed one of the world’s most powerful ultrafast lasers. His expertise spans precision electronics, embedded systems, and real-time signal processing for dual-comb measurements.

At K2 Photonics, Lukas leads hardware development: designing the core electronics and control systems that power our laser solutions. His practical approach and deep technical insight have been key in turning complex ideas into reliable, high-performance systems.

Prof. Ursula Keller

Professor Ursula Keller invented the core SESAM technology (semiconductor saturable absorber mirrors) over 30 years ago, and has been pushing the performance and frontiers of ultrafast lasers since then. The performance, simplicity, cost, and reliability of the SESAM approach to enable robust commercial products has been widely adopted in industry, from multiple start-ups and spin-off of ETH to the largest multinational photonics companies worldwide.

Invented and developed by her and her research group at ETH over the last decade, the dual-comb ultrafast laser enables another new class of performance features and applications.

As our scientific advisor, Professor Keller provides key guidance and insight to help us develop cutting-edge laser technology to meets the needs of our customers and the industry, and she continues to further develop this technology, enabling the potential of these lasers for even more important high-impact applications.
